Discover Credit Card Options

One of the four major brands of credit card issued in the United States, Discover cards are the newest entrant to the financial marketplace. In 1985 Sears was the largest retailer in United States and thought to enter the financial arena. To do this, Sears released a credit card, the Discover Card, to rival Visa and MasterCard.

The Discover Card gained a national following rather quickly thanks to no annual fee and higher credit limits than other credit cards of the day. Cardholders were also able to earn cash back bonuses which are still in effect. Then consumers earned 2%, but today Discover Card consumers can earn as much as 5% back toward their account balance. Sears ran into trouble with the Discover Card as many other retailers didn’t accept it thanks to the Sears backing. The other retailers simply didn’t want to help the competition. Eventually the Discover Card was sold along with the brokerage firm, Dean Witter which was responsible for the card until Discover Financial Services became an independent company in 2007.

Discover offers at least seven credit cards designed to suit all walks of life.
