Bank of America Credit Cards
The largest bank in the United States by deposits, Bank of America is based out of Charlotte, North Carolina. Before 1998, Bank of America was known as NationsBank, and for years before that was called North Carolina National Bank. The most recent name was selected after NationsBank acquired Bank America, a bank with a long and successful history based in San Francisco.
In 1958, Bank America introduced the BankAmericard which later became called a VISA card. This action also spurred competitors to develop the Master Charge, later called MasterCard. After a hedge fund loss in 1998, BankAmerica, one of the largest banks on the west coast, became vulnerable and was purchased by NationsBank. When the merger was complete, the combined company had assets of $570billion and settled into a prominent role in the banking and credit card industry.
